When Tim Pelham, owner of USA Home Improvement, went to the Vines’ home to provide an estimate for an exterior door installation he didn’t expect to end up doing a complete kitchen remodel. However that is exactly what happened. The homeowners, Allison and Phil, had been dreaming about remodeling their small kitchen but didn’t know where to start. The existing kitchen in their 3 bedroom home was small. By small, I mean it was smaller than the kitchens in some studio apartments.
This is the Vines kitchen before remodeling. The blank wall didn’t make use of the space. The refrigerator was poorly placed and dominated the small kitchen. The cabinetry did not provide enough storage. The vinyl flooring, formica tops and white appliances needed an update. The kitchen triangle was inefficient and needed changed.
“The kitchen triangle is an essential aspect of kitchen design and remodeling. The triangle is derived from three points – the sink, the stove, and the refrigerator, which are the spaces where you clean, prepare, and store food. Keeping the triangle in mind while remodeling helps the flow and functionality of your new kitchen design!”-Erin.Davis, lead designer at Mosaic Design & Remodeling
Here is the Vines kitchen after remodeling. By knocking out a wall and moving the refrigerator and sink the kitchen is more efficient. The new cabinetry now goes to the ceiling adding valuable storage. By utelizing the once empty wall, there is a better work triangle and more counter space. The homeowners have pets and wanted finishes that could handle the traffic so they opted to install bead-board with a chair rail. A warm coat of paint, new granite tops and the natural stone back-splash compliment the cherry stain on the solid wood cabinetry. The vinyl flooring was replaced with ceramic tile. The under-mount sink and stainless appliances keep the look modern and fresh.
