Hello beautiful friends. It’s been way TOO long since we’ve talked. We’ve missed you. We’ve been busy. Let me say it again. We’ve been busy. And by busy I mean, we’ve moved. That’s right, we have moved and, drum roll please, our new showroom is OPEN!!! I thought it would be fun to share some of the exciting new things you’ll see when you visit. Soon we’ll be posting a video tour but for those of you who can’t wait, here’s a sneak peak. Are you ready? Here we go.
Don’t let the simplicity of our front entrance fool you. Behind these doors are hardwood and carpet flooring options to suit every homeowner’s taste. Perhaps my favorite design feature of our Nashville flooring showroom is our reclaimed wood accent wall. Isn’t it to die for? Love it? We stock it. That’s right. We now offer reclaimed wood sold by the square foot. These “skins” are actually the bi-product left over from reclaimed wood after it is milled for use in flooring, furniture manufacturing etc. The “skin” is thin and can be installed using just finish nails which means less damage to your sheet rock should you redecorate down the road.
We offer custom area rugs too! I love the natural fiber jute Fibreworks area rug in our front showroom. We offer options in everything from sisal, jute, flocatti, seagrass, wool and more. In fact, we can make a custom rug out of any carpet with endless varieties for binding, fancy edge details, the works.
Don’t you just love this leather carpet? This is an enviable high style look. Natural fibers with a woven leather edge. I’m in design heaven!
Speaking of carpets, let me tell you about Imagine, our newest line by Milliken. These are completely custom carpets and area rugs. Simply choose your perfect pattern, choose your colors from the 35 color palette, and Milliken will send your custom sample to your home for approval.
Our new Nashville flooring showroom is the place for all your floor covering needs. Our knowledgeable sales and design team will be delighted to help you. In fact we’ll roll out the red carpet for you. Come and see us. Tell them I sent you!
That’s what’s new underfoot.
I love my laminate flooring. The dark chocolate mahogany finish caught my eye when we looked at samples and I knew it would look beautiful in my home. I have two small children and the youngest is ALL BOY! Matchbox cars, Lego’s, and a myriad of other “scratch-prone” toys are often left out on my floors so durability was my number one concern. We have had our laminate for years now and the floors have proven durable. It has been 5 years since we had them installed and they still look beautiful….in the evening… immediately after mopping… as long as my children aren’t home.
The number one complaint I have about my hardwood floors is that no matter what cleaning product I use, they only look good for about 5 minutes after I mop, which happens to be exactly the amount of time it takes my children to run a mini-marathon of the house 100 times. SERIOUSLY! We, like most people, do not wear shoes in our home. After my children run around barefoot, or I walk through the house, what I’m left with is a clean floor that has footprints all over it. The pitter-patter of little feet, in this situation, is devastating after the time I spend painstakingly vacuuming and mopping the floor.
Here is a close up image of my son’s footprint on my laminate flooring. The picture was taken about a week after I had mopped. Although it may be difficult to see in the images there are several hundred other similar footprints all over my floors.
Obviously it’s time to mop again. Do you feel me? Am I the only one searching for a product that will clean laminate flooring?
Cue the angels singing and sparkling footprint-less floors. All you need to clean laminate flooring is this hard surfaces Flooring Cleaner by Shaw Floors. This cleaner is safe for all ceramic, polyurethane finished hardwood, laminate and resilient flooring. It brightens and preserves finishes and leaves no sticky, greasy or dulling residue.
How to Clean Laminate Flooring
- Thoroughly vacuum to remove dust and loose dirt before cleaning.
- Lightly mist cleaner on a 4×4 area being careful not to saturate the floor.
- Using a back and forth motion, wipe mist off the floor with a clean micro-fiber terry cloth mops or towel until area is clean, free from prints and dirt. Complete one area before moving to the next.
- Repeat step 3 working from the inner-most corner of the room to the outermost (so that you don’t leave tracks as you work) until the entire floor has been cleaned.
- Be sure to change out the mop head or replace your towel once it becomes soiled.
Here is my clean laminate flooring after following the 5 steps above. Would you look at that shine? Nary a footprint in sight!

Here’s the 411 on Beveled Hardwood Flooring. To bevel or not to bevel, that is the question. The number of options, finishes and edge styles can be overwhelming if you are in the market for a new hardwood floor. It is important to understand the difference between beveled hardwood flooring and straight edged hardwood flooring.
Just what is beveled hardwood flooring?
Beveled hardwood flooring is flooring with a cut down the length of the floorboard. Sometimes called an eased edge, a beveled edge plank is the opposite of a square edged plank. When too beveled boards meet, the bevels create a “V” shape. When two straight edge boards meet, there is not a “V” but a smooth floor. The bevel is the main difference between a site finished floor vs a pre-finished floor which doesn’t get any sanding. Almost all pre-finished flooring will have a bevel because the bevel covers for any variances in the milling process.
- Aesthetics- Beveled edge flooring highlights each individual board. There is a visual distinction between the boards which can be a design element of the space. Bevels come in differing depths. A traditional 45% bevel is deeper than a more shallow micro-bevel. It just depends on the look you want to achieve.
- Ease in repair-ability. If there is ever a scratch or a dent, an individual board is easier to replace.
- Beveled edges eliminates the risk of ledging. Ledging is unequal or uneven board heights because the sub floor is not level. No sub-floors are perfectly level.
- Thorough cleaning requires the use of a vacuum because dirt and dust can settle into the grooves of the bevel, however in terms of time and care, the difference is negligible. It takes no more time to vacuum or mop a beveled edge floor than it does to vacuum a flat surface straight edge floor.
