It’s been a while since we talked about flooring trends. What’s new and exciting underfoot for 2014? We’re weighing in on the latest trends from carpet to hardwood to LVT. LVT or “Luxury vinyl tile” is no longer just reserved for commercial spaces. It has come a long way and is a great choice for basements. Its durability makes it an excellent flooring choice for pet owners and families with small children.

Cork flooring is also growing in popularity not just because of its good looks but for its many health benefits. It’s environmentally friendly and sustainable. Cork floors are non- toxic, antimicrobial, and naturally resistant to molds and mildew. It is also green and contributes to LEED credits for LEED certified homes. Cork floors are high style and have great sound absorption along with health benefits- no emissions for indoor air quality.Flooring Trends

Hardwoods remain the most popular flooring choice in Middle Tennessee. We are installing a lot of wide plank styles. In terms of finishes, there are two extremes. Light or blond wood tones are a growing trend. Dark planks continue to be popular. Reclaimed and more rustic looks are also really hot.

Wall to wall carpeting is making a major comeback. Flooring trends are cyclical and we are seeing more color and large scale patterns. According to Apartment Therapy blogger, Dabney Frank, “There’s been a big focus on rugs in recent years, but there’s much to be said about full-on carpet. It’s cozy on the feet and inexpensive when compared to hardwood floors.”
Carpeting with tone on tone patterns are an elegant way to add another layer of texture to a space and are well suited for calming neutral color schemes like this bedroom.
As you can see, there is a wide range of flooring trends for 2014. From hardwoods, to vinyls, to cork and carpets there is something to suit every lifestyle, taste and budget.
